AI4LUNGS at the Forefront of Innovation in Cancer Diagnostics: Highlights from the Porto Precision Cancer Conference

On January 16, 2025, José Carlos Machado from i3S – Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (Porto, Portugal), a key partner in the AI4LUNGS project, took part in the 1st Porto Precision Cancer Meeting, hosted by IPATIMUP. This event brought together leading experts in cancer research to explore the evolving role of liquid biopsies in diagnostics and precision medicine.

The conference provided a valuable space for sharing the latest advancements in the use of non-invasive biopsy techniques and sparked discussions on how new technologies—including Artificial Intelligence (AI)—can transform cancer care. International panelists tackled both the scientific and practical challenges of implementing these innovations in clinical settings. During the discussions, José Carlos Machado highlighted how AI4LUNGS contributes to this effort by integrating AI into clinical workflows to support earlier, more accurate diagnoses and better patient stratification—particularly relevant for complex conditions like lung cancer.

AsAI4LUNGS continues to develop its platform, the potential to support personalised cancer care through data-driven tools becomes increasingly evident.

This event underlined the shared vision across the scientific community: by combining deep clinical expertise with cutting-edge digital tools, we can push the boundaries of what’s possible in cancer diagnostics.
