Lung diseases pose a significant global health threat.

Respiratory diseases are a high-impact challenge to life, health, and productive human activity, causing severe illness to hundreds of millions and death to millions worldwide each year and accounting for over 10% of all Disability-Adjusted Life-Years (DALYs). Understanding the symptoms and reaching a diagnosis requires several tests and exams which are time-consuming and costly, impacting the outcome.

Doubts frequently arise in medical imaging and often necessitate additional tests. The test results are then discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting where experts evaluate them. The certainty of these conclusions varies, and sometimes, the final assessment can only be made by reevaluating the case retrospectively at a later time.

Transforming respiratory healthcare.

Currently, no digital solution combines guideline-based recommendations with AI-based suggestions for individual patient diagnosis and therapy.

AI4LUNGS will integrate machine and deep learning algorithms to thoroughly analyse data, uncovering insights for precise diagnosis and personalised treatment plans. These algorithms will identify imaging characteristics invisible to the human eye and extract hidden information from the data. A digital replica of the patient, known as a digital twin, will be created to support the clinicians along the stratification process.
