AI4LUNGS Open Workshop Explores the Future of AI-Powered Lung Healthcare

On 20 May 2026, researchers, clinicians, legal experts, and healthcare innovators gathered at SDA Bocconi in Milan for the AI4LUNGS Open Workshop, an event dedicated to exploring how artificial intelligence, digital health technologies, and interdisciplinary collaboration are shaping the future of personalised respiratory care.

Throughout the workshop, partners showcased the latest progress of the AI4LUNGS project, including AI-powered clinical decision support systems, biomarker and findings extraction, user-centred platform design, and the legal and ethical considerations surrounding the use of clinical data in healthcare. Speakers also shared preliminary results from a clinical survey, offering valuable insights into healthcare professionals' perceptions of AI and highlighting the importance of building trustworthy technologies through close collaboration with clinicians.

The event concluded with an engaging panel discussion on "Digital Twins as the Future of Personalised Healthcare," moderated by experts from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, INESC TEC, SDA Bocconi, and RPTU.

Joined by invited speakers from the University of Pavia, the Politecnico di Milano, and the European Institute of Oncology (IEO), the panel explored how digital twins could transform personalised medicine while addressing key challenges such as accessibility, health equity, ethics, and the evolving role of AI in supporting rather than replacing clinical decision-making.
